Version 1.0 of Simple Weather Indicator is the last major release since Canonical deprecated Unity desktop environment. However, bug fixes and minor releases will be continued until Ubuntu 16.04 end of life, April 2021.
Kasra MadadipouyaPrelease of version 1.0 of the indicator is available for testingRelease of version 0.92017-02-01T00:00:00+00:002017-02-01T00:00:00+00:00http://simpleweatherindicator.madadipouya.com/general/2017/02/01/release-of-version-09
Very happy to announce the new release of Simple Weather Indicator, version 0.9. It is a big milestone for us and we are glad to succeed to deliver this version.
The new version (0.9) comes with many new features and weather metrics. You can find the list of the new features in below:

Added weather condition overview

Added humidity level

Added wind speed

Added cloudiness level

Added weather pressure

Added weather visibility

In addition to that, we added package support for Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus). You can now easily install the indicator via PPA repository. For more information refer to installation page.

On the other hand, in this release we have dropped the support for Ubuntu Wily (15.10), soon we will drop the support for Vivid as well. Our advice is to use the newer version which is still supported by Canonical.
Kasra MadadipouyaHappy to announce the release of version 0.9 of Simple Weather Indicator which delivers with set of new featuresMoving to new API2017-01-31T00:00:00+00:002017-01-31T00:00:00+00:00http://simpleweatherindicator.madadipouya.com/general/2017/01/31/moving-to-new-api
We are super excited to announce that we have moved to the new in-house API which is highly scalable and is much more accurate than the old one.

The new API developed and deployed in a very short period of time. The API named Eris. Eris offers more metrics than the previous one. However, it is totally backward compatible and does not require any updates on the indicator. In fact, the API has already deployed and currently you are using it. Isn’t cool!

For more clarity and allowing other developers to collaborate and/or use the service, we open source Eris codebase and all its documentations. Feel free to fork it and deploy your own instance.

Additionally, we have moved away from Ip-api.com as it is blocked in some countries. Instead, for location detection we have integrated Ip-api in our service. This makes the code cleaner and easier to maintain.

Lastly, Eris facilitates us to move forward and adding new metrics to the indicator. Stay tuned, we will be back with a newer and better version of Simple Indicator Weather very soon.
Kasra MadadipouyaWe are super excited to announce that we have moved to the new in-house API which is highly scalable and is much more accurate than the old one.
